The new work of the Belarusian group «Spiral-Shaped Hopewreck» is both an attempt to experiment and an opportunity to present their creative work to discerning listeners in a new way. Instrumental interludes connect the tracks into a single canvas, musically going beyond the band's traditional doom death metal and filled with sincere feelings and experiences. The mini-album includes two unexpected cover versions that successfully maintain the unity of the whole work.

Avec un genre donné, certains groupes vont le révolutionner tandis que d'autres vont le perfectionner : Lycanthia fait le second. Oligarchy, deuxième et ultime album du sextette australien, est une perle de death/doom metal gothique qui utilise violon et chants féminins et évite les écueils classiques. Le violon n'est pas qu'un faire-valoir et peut briller lors de nombreux morceaux de bravoure ; pas de styles "La Belle et la Bête" : Vanessa Black et Megan Robins ont l'ascendant. Excellent !!

Après un Through Twilight... passable, Mort crée Descending Further into Nothingness sous le patronyme d'Exiled from Light, un album de DSBM lancinant aux atmosphères spectrales bien meilleur. Malgré tout, le démon de la stagnation continue de le harceler : la batterie est le grand point fort mais certains schémas se répètent et, couplés aux riffs minimalistes, ils empêchent certaines pistes de se distinguer l'une de l'autre. Le début est un peu long mais cet album en vaut vraiment la peine !

A truly stellar death/doom album with heavy doses of black metal. Tracks like Isolation, Child of Light, and Broken Hymns deliver the sorrowful and icy tone of this album, elevated by the stirring cello compositions of Raphael Weinroth-Browne. The album delivers a deeply satisfying crescendo in Becoming Intangible before stirring the soul once again with Epilogue.
